Interview with Dr. All Nucciarone, pastor of the Baptist Church of Jerusalem

The Baptist Church of Jerusalem was organized in 1925 and is one of the oldest Protestant Churches in the city. It's affiliated to the Association of Baptist Churches of Israel and to the Southern Baptist Convention of the USA.

The building of the Baptist Church of Jerusalem has been vandalized by religious fanatics in the past but nowadays the church owns a pleasant property in which the services are held. The building has been built also with the support of neighbors and local synagogues.

The church also hosts services in various languages (which is a common thing in Israel): English, Russian and Hebrew. It's current pastor, after being a minister for about 12 years in Milan, Italy, and 14 in Vienna, Austria, has been ministering in Jerusalem for three and a half years, developing a creative ministry that includes sport activities which promotes friendship and good relations with people from diverse walks of life.

During my research to better understand the presence and reality of the church in Israel, pastor All Nucciarone has welcomed me with open arms for the interview that you may watch, posted above.

This is my first interview in English. Obviously, for this reason, I was a bit nervous and insecure but I'm sure the interview is quite clear since the questions and answers are easy to understand.

I'm in the process of learning how to include subtitles in the interview videos. Hopefully pretty soon this feature will be available too.

Thank you for all your support.

Shavu'ot with Messianic Jews at Yad HaShmonah

It was brought to my knowledge thru the Baptist Church of Jerusalem that a gathering of Messianic Jews (Jews who believe that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah) was going to take place in a location called Yad HaShmonah, a name that was given to that place by settler-founders in memory of eight Jewish refugees who fled Austria and Finland in 1938 and who were returned by the Finlands to Gestapo in November, 1942. It was a time in history when the Finland government worked in collaboration with the Nazi Germany in oposition to the Soviet Union in order to regain the control of the Carelia region (Stalin had taken control of that region during "The Winter War" in 1939/40).

There is an annual celebration in Yad HaShmonah during the Shavu'ot festivities, attended by Messianic Jews from all over the world. Besides that, foreigners join them in this celebration that is characterized by communion and friendship. It's also in this very date that we celebrate "The Pentecost" (the hebrew quote in the picture above is from the Book of Acts 2.1).

As it happens in a very cosmopolitan event like this, I met some Brazilians with Jewish origins who have been living here for several years and who are also leaders of religious congregations and messianic groups.

The Messianic Judaism in Israel started many years ago with a few participants and it has been growing significantly throughout the last two decades to about twenty thousand members. It's a ministry that should be in our prayers given the struggles that its participants face despite the fact that Israel is a democratic government.

This is yet another aspect of the Church in Israel, where it has its very origins dated from two thousand years ago. Please see photos and testimonies below regarding this religious festival.

O Dia de Jerusalém - Jerusalem Day

Last Wednesday (June 1st) I missed an event here, in Jerusalem, which I regret so badly not being able to attend to. However, I'm still getting acquainted to the local calendar and, when the main celebrations of it came to my knowledge, it was already late in the day.

I'm referring to the celebrations regarding the repossession of Jerusalem (and Jerusalem reunited), which happened when israeli troops repossessed the Eastern Jerusalem during the well-known Six-Day War in 1967.

During the celebrations this year, as it usually happens every year, throwing of stones and people being arrested on the streets was a common sight to see, besides the quarrels not only between palestinians and jews but also between left wing and right wing jews who blame their counterparts of being fascist and traitors. In this case, the "fascist" ones being the right wing jews who still aim for the restoration of the Great Israel of Kings David and Solomon, getting rid of the Palestinians three thousand years ago; the "traitors" being the left wing jews who are for the concessions regarding the creation of the Palestinian State.

According to Micky Rosenfeld, the speaker for the Police, quoted by the French Agency AFP, more than 40 thousand israeli people, in its majority being the youth gathered from all corners of the country, joined the parade that started in the Palestine neighborhood of Cheikh Jarrah.
The parade had its final destination at the entrance of the Damascus Gate and Palestine merchants shut down their business to avoid confrontation.

Although the presence of more than 3 thousand policeman made possible a less-troublesome event, still 24 people were arrested.

On that very same Wednesday, the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated again that Jerusalem is indivisible, adding: "our generation liberated Jerusalem and we are in the process of rebuilding it. The new generation will carry on this task and eventually Jerusalem will become and international city, the pride of all of us".
Despite all the pressure worldwide regarding this issue, it seems that this is a problem with no aparent solution anytime soon. Let us stay tuned for the next episodes!
